So today I went for a walk with my Jack Russel terrier Maggie and my boyfriend Ehren in the city park and as we stepped around a corner we find two deer; they were fairly small, but apparently adult. One had the beginnings of the season's antlers all wrapped up in fuzzy brown velvet, and the other was apparently female. The two deer stared at us, and my dog stared back, and Ehren and I gazed in awe at how near we were to them. Ehren, who lives in the country and has had much experience chasing them out of gardens, spoke of his thoughts on deer as the most elegant, beautiful pests ever.
So... then the buck deer mounted the female. The female sort of took a few steps forward and he fell off, but then a few minutes later he tried again. Awkward... Ehren and I glanced at each other and decided the best option was to scare the deer away before things got too graphic. We tried to get my little terrier excited enough to chase after them, but that failed so we danced around and yelled until the two deer ran off.
